We purchased our place in July 2007 near the end of the bubble bursting. Looking back, it was a big mistake and the warning signs were there. We were naive and didn't think much of it. The sales person helping us was very rude, but whatever, shes gone after the transaction is finished.
We've learned a lot of lessons purchasing this place and we were stupid enough not to use a realtor, as the one we had was more interested in his commission than helping us. So if anyone from the Real Estate board needs a quote for their site, you can by all means use this: "Never ever buy a place without a realtor!" Just be wise and interview them though, there are definite rats out there.
Anyways, we completed all the paper and everything and handed Onni our hard earned money. That was mistake #1 for us. The condo layout was awesome, everything we wanted, until we lived in it and started noticing a smell from our 2nd bathroom.
During our walkthough before taking possession of our place we noticed a lot of deficiencies. Nothing more major than a crack in our tub and smell in our 2nd bathroom. The tub was fixed with a lot of arm twisting and we didn't think much of the bathroom problem, as the Onni guy said that the pipes just needed to be filled with water. Ok so we took his word for it, mistake #2.
As we lived in the unit, we noticed that the smell at first was sewer like and it turned to cooking odors! As if someone was cooking in our bathroom! This was September 2007, fast forward to now January 28, 2009 and the problem hasn't been fixed!
In between this time, there was A LOT of arm twisting on my part to get them to investigate this problem. I must have had my case rejected 4-5 times. I will detail the subsquent details in later posts.
Finally in November 2008, I found the problem that has been plaguing me and recently reported to the National Home Warranty. I just got their reply today and they rejected my claim again after looking at my videos I made. Take a look for yourself and say that there's not a problem from behind the wall.
